The business is rooted among the olive trees of the Impero valley, in the entroterra of western Liguria, namely in the ancient borgo of Chiusavecchia. Back in 1900, Giovanni Battista Merano and Pietro Merano already operated as olive oil millers and suppliers: they were respectively the maternal great-grandfather and paternal grandfather of the two brothers currently running the company: Piero and Massimo. Before Piero and Massimo, bothers Luigi and Francesco already focused their efforts on quality production and connection with the territory.
Today, in western Liguria, “Fratelli Merano” is one of the largest businesses in the sector. It stands out for its steady growth and innovative capacity as regards products, brands and packaging, assets which are reflected by a high level of customer satisfatcion in terms of food safety and quality of the finished product.
The company manages its own olive groves: 70 hectares and 20,000 olive trees, scattered in the municipalities of Chiusavecchia, Lucinasco and Borgomaro, the olive-growing heart of western Liguria. Other olive groves are located in Montegrazie, within the borders of the municipality of Imperia, close to the majestic Marian sanctuary erected in the 15th century – interesting to note, the same period of the development of olive farming in the area.
In 2006/2007 Fratelli Merano inaugurated the new mill, which features three processing lines (continuous olive oil extraction line, with pitting machine to produce oil only from the pulp of Taggiasca olives and traditional plant) – the best guarantee of hygiene and quality. It is here that olives are processed to produce PDO Riviera Ligure subarea Riviera dei Fiori extra virgin olive oil.
The mill has a storage capacity of 1,200 quintals and a packaging line dedicated only to PDO EVO, which is bottled and packaged on site in the mill itself.
Fratelli Merano has always focused on the promotion of local products such as PDO Riviera Ligure – Riviera dei Fiori EVO.
In this light, fully compliant with the PDO specification rules, the sensorial analysis of the house’s PDO EVO displays sweetness, with delicate spicy and bitter notes, obviously fruity and with hints that can range, depending on the season, from almond, to artichoke and olive leaf.
Fratelli Merano also manages the historical Imperia Oneglia brand “Piccardo & Savoré”, established by Davide Piccardo in 1918 with a view to marketing the oil of the Imperia Oneglia valley.
In conclusion, 100% commitment towards high quality products such as PDO Riviera Ligure subarea Riviera dei Fiori extra virgin olive oil.
