Mariano Papone, owner of Torre dei Paponi, is a living icon of the history of Western Liguria. As genuine and sincere as his PDO Riviera Ligure olive oil, Mariano is a champion of pallapugno, a game widely played in the rural areas between Liguria and Piedmont. The origins of Torre Paponi go back six hundred years when it was founded to control the territory of the Lengueglia lordship. It was also at this time that the intensive farming of olives on terraces began. Mariano is very attached to his property, plots such as the Polveriera, once a military depot, or the Murun, with its high dry-stone walls.
