Italy’s Head of State attended the Confagricoltura AGM and praised the achievements of the national agricultural sector
The President of the Italian Republic Sergio Mattarella attended the Confagricoltura Annual General Meeting in Rome (12th December). The title of the AGM was “Farmers, the Protagonists of the future environment, territory, businesses: the Instruments of the Constitution”.
He declared his pride in the quality production of the Italian agricultural sector, specifically the ‘protected geographical indication’, ‘protected designation of origin’, and ‘traditional speciality guaranteed’ products.
According to Mattarella, the GI (Geographical Indication) System has allowed the development of a European standard ( where Italy is the leader) that ensures high quality and establishes a disciplined and healthy consumption model.
The President, who is sensitive to the promotion and protection of PDO and PGI products, had already expressed his attention to the initiatives concerning the Geographical Indications and Protection Consortia system: in March 2020, he received a visit from the President of the Qualivita Foundation Cesare Mazzetti, Director Mauro Rosati, the President of the Scientific Committee Paolo De Castro and the Director of the Treccani Italian Encyclopaedia Institute Massimo Bray.
