Identity and connection to the land combined with well-being and pleasure under the banner of PDO Riviera Ligure Extra-Virgin Olive Oil. In this case we’re not talking about rewarding pleasures of the table. PDO Ligurian olive oil has many characteristics and resources. This is why the new plan for the Mediterranean brand, “Terrazze di Liguria” (Terraces of Liguria), now offers three products in which PDO Riviera Ligure Extra-Virgin Olive Oil is combined with essences from the land of Western Liguria. So, now there are a Moisturizing Bath Oil, Toning Massage Oil and an Anti-Aging Body Oil. These cosmetic elixirs are made with olive oil, lavender and rosemary. All grown within 5000 square meters in Western Liguria and readily available: the olive oil could only be PDO Riviera Ligure in the geographic denomination Riviera dei Fiori, which is produced during the winter. Its quality certification and Ligurian traceability are a guarantee for the consumer. Lavender and rosemary are harvested during the summer, according to nature’s rhythms.
An initiative of this type has solid, traditional foundations and is very environmentally friendly. It’s not just a matter of “production at the source” or “short supply chain”. It has to do with taking care of oneself by following a natural path and a global, yet local design for ourselves. Thus, PDO Riviera Ligure Extra-Virgin Olive Oil has found another use and offers Ligurian excellence in yet another way in addition to its use in Genoese Pesto and pitted Taggiasche olives.
What is even more fascinating is the recovery of the traditional knowledge of Western Liguria: a story that talks not only about the hand-picking of the olives but also the lavender and rosemary. It is a return to the authentic rural dimension of Lavanda Angustifolia Miller tirelessly sought among the sunny-bathed heights by following the trails used to lead flocks of sheep to the high pastures. Then, there is the memory of the first cultivations encouraged by a French perfume company that subsequently also become Italian. There is the memory of the almost alchemical art of distillation, with alembics that are still used, still efficient despite their centuries of history. There is the image of pruning the twigs of rosemary that have exploded from a deeply-rooted gnarly trunk clinging to a stone wall that are the absolutely distinctive sign of the Imperia landscape. In short, authenticity and, above all, vitality: magic words, like the magic of the annual miracle of golden olive oil, a PDO Riviera Ligure that is certainty and solidity combined with essential oils from plants that have written the history of fascinating Mediterranean places.
