The XVII Rapporto Ismea-Qualivita details figures of the Italian Geographical Indications sector
The GI sector is on the growth (+28%). The province of Savona ranks 1st, followed by Imperia and La Spezia
A € 37-million value at production, a 4.9% annual growth rate: the main figures regarding Ligurian PDO and PGI agri-food and wine production confirm the importance of certified supply chains. These are but two examples of the contents of the XVII Rapporto Ismea-Qualivita, which analyses the 2018 Italian Geographical Indication data: Liguria features 17 PDO and PGI products and a workforce of approximately 1,500.
The agri-food sector features 5 PDO and PGI products, generating nearly € 18 millions and an annual growth rate of +28%. The sector is led by PDO Genoese Basil followed by PDO Riviera Ligure DOP, its growth steady, and by PGI Focaccia di Recco col Formaggio IGP. As for provinces, Savona (9 mln €), Imperia (6 mln €) and Genova (2 mln €).
Wine boasts 12 PDO and PGI products accounting for € 20 mllions, with a negative performance of -9,7%. The sector is led by PDO Riviera Ligure di Ponente and PDO Colli di Luni DOP, followed by PDO Cinque Terre e Cinque Terre Sciacchetrà PDO and Rossese di Dolceacqua. As for provinces Savona (9 mln €) and La Spezia (8 mln €).
